Traditional Turkish Kilims The older, plainer voice of Anatolia.

Kilims

Kilims are the older, plainer-spoken siblings of the knotted carpet: flat-woven, boldly geometric, and carrying Anatolia's tribal pattern languages, motifs for protection, fertility and the evil eye, in their purest form. Our kilim selection lives at the Sultanahmet showroom and changes with what we find; the best way to see it is in person.

01

The flat-weave tradition

With no pile to soften the drawing, a kilim's pattern is the weave itself. The technique rewards clarity: strong diagonals, stepped lozenges, elibelinde and ram's-horn motifs passed from mother to daughter across Anatolian villages.

02

Woven language

Kilim motifs were a vocabulary before they were decoration, symbols for luck, protection and family woven into dowry pieces. We enjoy reading them with visitors; every kilim in the showroom has something to say.

03

A living selection

Unlike our carpet archive, the kilim selection is not catalogued online, flat-weaves deserve to be seen in daylight, turned over, and felt. Ask us on WhatsApp for photos of the current pieces, or simply come by.

Questions, answered

What is the difference between a kilim and a carpet?+

A kilim is flat-woven, the pattern is created by the weft threads themselves, with no knotted pile. This makes kilims lighter, reversible in many cases, and gives them their characteristic crisp, geometric designs.

Do you have kilims in the showroom?+

Yes, our kilim selection lives in the Sultanahmet showroom and changes with what we find. Because flat-weaves photograph less faithfully than pile carpets, we prefer to show them in person; visit us on Divan Yolu Cd. No:16 or ask on WhatsApp and we will share photos of the current pieces.

Can kilims be shipped abroad?+

Easily, kilims fold and travel better than almost any other textile. We ship worldwide with insurance and tracking, and handle the paperwork.
