Silk Carpets
Silk is the most demanding material a weaver can choose, and the most rewarding. It takes finer knots, holds sharper detail, and catches light in a way wool never can. Our silk archive gathers Hereke, Turkish and Persian pieces, each hand-knotted, each with its dyes and provenance explained openly at our Sultanahmet showroom.

The finest knotting
Because silk thread is so fine, it allows knot densities wool cannot reach, and with them curves, figures and miniature detail that read almost like painting. Our Hereke pieces show this tradition at its height.

Chosen for collectors
Every silk piece in the archive is selected one by one: for the honesty of its dyes, the discipline of its drawing and the condition of its pile. We would rather keep seventeen exceptional carpets than seven hundred ordinary ones.

Questions, answered
How can I tell a real silk carpet from an artificial one?+
Genuine silk has a sheen that shifts with the light and the direction of the pile, and a distinctive fineness of knotting. In the showroom we demonstrate this directly, turning the carpet, showing the back, and explaining exactly what you are looking at before any purchase.
How many knots does a silk carpet have?+
Fine silk carpets in our archive are knotted at densities from several hundred knots per square inch upward. Higher density allows finer curves and detail, you can see the difference clearly in the medallions and borders.
Are silk carpets suitable for use, or only display?+
Both. Silk is a remarkably strong fibre; many collectors hang finer pieces while using more robust silk-and-wool blends on the floor. We advise honestly on each piece, some are woven for the wall, others for a lifetime underfoot.
