Turkish Carpets & Handwoven Rugs Centuries of tradition, one knot at a time.

Turkish Carpets & Rugs

Turkey's weaving tradition spans court workshops and village looms, silk and wool, pattern languages refined over centuries. At Yurdan Carpet we keep a curated archive of hand-knotted Turkish carpets, Hereke silk, Ottoman-tradition pieces and fine Anatolian work, each chosen one by one at our showroom on Divanyolu Street in Sultanahmet, Istanbul.

01

The double knot

Turkish carpets are woven with the symmetrical Gördes knot, tied around two warps rather than one. The result is a denser, more durable pile that holds its pattern crisply for generations. It is one of the first things we show visitors on the back of a carpet.

02

Natural dyes, patient hands

Madder red, indigo blue, walnut brown, the palettes of our Turkish pieces come from natural dyes that soften and deepen with age rather than fading. A fine piece takes months, sometimes years, on the loom.

03

From court silk to village wool

The archive ranges from Hereke silk carpets woven in the tradition of the Ottoman court to wool and cotton pieces carrying older Anatolian pattern languages, Sultani florals, shawl stripes, prayer-niche compositions.
